Linum (flax) is a hardy perennial native to temperate and subtropical regions of the world. Linum species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including the Cabbage Moth, The Nutmeg, the Setaceous Hebrew Character and Coleophora striolatella, which feeds exclusively on Linum narbonense.

Several flaxes are cultivated as garden ornamentals, including the blue-flowered species blue. The plants are easy to grow, and are tolerant of poor and dry soils.

Type: Hardy perennial

Height: 18-24"

Location: Sun or part sun

Hardiness zones: 5-9

Germination: Sow the seeds just under the surface and water in. Keep lightly moist and do not let the soil dry out. Keep at 20-22 °C, 68-72 °F. These seeds are known to be a bit slow to germinate, and should be up in about 21-60 days, but could take as long as 90 days for some seeds.
