Description

Magnolia sieboldii, or Siebold's magnolia, also known as Korean mountain magnolia and Oyama magnolia, is native to east Asia in China, Japan, and Korea. It is a large deciduous shrub or small tree 5–10 m (16–33 ft) tall.

The flowers, unlike the spring flowering magnolias, open primarily in late spring and early summer, and continue intermittently afterwards.

Magnolia sieboldii is grown as an ornamental tree in gardens. It is one of the hardiest magnolias, successful in cultivation as far north as Arboretum Mustila in Finland.

Siebold's magnolia is the national flower of North Korea.

Very few seeds are available, so this is a very rare find!

Type: Small tree or large shrub

Hardiness zones: 6-9, sometimes zones 5

Location: Sun or part sun

Seeds per pack: 2 large seeds

Availability: If these seeds are showing out of stock, we strongly recommend joining our wait list, as these seeds have a very shorty viability window, and this helps ensure you get the freshest seeds possible! If they are available, they will only be available for a short time.

Germination: Start these seeds right away to preserve viability, no matter the time of year. Soak in water for 24 hours. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 90 days. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for them to germinate. Germination is generally within 60 days after the warming period, though they could take a few months.

If these seeds are received in late fall or early winter (when it's already cold out), they can be sown outdoors for spring germination. Sow seed 1/2" deep, keep moist, mulch the seed bed, remove mulch upon germination
