Magnolia soulangeana, the saucer magnolia, is a deciduous tree with large, early-blooming large flowers in various shades of pink. It is one of the most commonly used magnolias in horticulture, being widely planted in the British Isles, the United States and Canada!
Growing as a multi-stemmed large shrub or small tree, it has shiny, dark green oval-shaped leaves. Its flowers emerge dramatically on a bare tree in early spring, with the deciduous leaves expanding shortly thereafter, lasting through summer until autumn.
Magnolia soulangeana flowers are large, commonly 10–20 cm (4–8 in) across!
Magnolia soulangeana is notable for its ease of cultivation, and its relative tolerance to wind and alkaline soils (two vulnerabilities of many other magnolias).

Germination:
Germination: Start these seeds right away to preserve viability, no matter the time of year. Soak in water for 24 hours. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 90 days. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for them to germinate. Germination is generally within 60 days after the warming period, though they could take a few months.
If these seeds are received in late fall or early winter (when it's already cold out), they can be sown outdoors for spring germination. Sow seed 1/2" deep, keep moist, mulch the seed bed, remove mulch upon germination.
