Geranium robertianum, commonly known as herb-Robert, or (in North America) Roberts geranium, is a common species of cranesbill native to North America, Europe and parts of Asia, and North Africa. The plant has many vernacular names, including red robin, death come quickly, fox geranium, stinking Bob, squinter-pip (Shropshire) and crow's foot.
It is a perennial, and bright green ground-cover topped with cute pink flowers in summer. Once established, these plants will gently self-seeds and spread to form drifts. If they decide to grow somewhere that you don't like, they are very easy to pull up. An ideal ground cover for shade, even tolerant of poor soils under evergreen trees.
Type: Hardy perennial
Height: 10"
Location: Sun or shade
Hardiness zones: 3-9
Seeds per packet: 20
Surface sow as light aids germination. Water the seeds in. Temperature 20-22C (68-72F) for 4 weeks. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-60 days after the warming period, though some will take longer.
