Beautiful plants that are remarkably easy to grow from their large seeds! We've included an image of some of our seedlings at less than 1 year old!
Plumeria obtusa, the Singapore graveyard flower, is native to the Neotropics, but widely cultivated for its ornamental and fragrant flowers around the world, where suitably warm climate exists. In colder temperate areas P. rubra must be grown indoors as it does not tolerate temperatures below 10 C (50 F). However it may be placed outside in a sheltered sunny spot during the summer months.
It is a small tree, growing 3.0-4.6 m (10-15 ft) tall. Its flowers are white with yellow throats and each has five petals. The fragrant flowers bloom in clusters.
They tolerate a wide variety of soils, from acid to alkaline and sandy to clay. These plants grow best in dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun and will bloom throughout most of the year in tropical areas.
Location: Sun
Hardiness zones: 10-12 outdoors, or grow as a houseplant or patio plant in the summer
Seeds per packet: 5
Sow just under the surface of the soil and water in. Keep continuously moist. Temperature 20-22C, 68-72F. Germinates in 10-30 days.
