Description

Alpine strawberries are larger than wild strawberries, though still have the natural characteristic and nutrition of the original natural strawberries, and remain unaltered by hybridization! Fruit are extremely sweet, are produced early in the season, and are continually produced for many weeks. Plants are easy to grow, and are very tolerant of drought and poor soils. Ideally plants can be placed in a sunny location, though these are probably the most -tolerant of strawberries, and will produce fruit in a partly d location. Strawberries make excellent potted plants, and are also one of the few fruits that can be grown as houseplants! Plant at any time of year, and place in a sunny window.

Type: Very hardy perennial

Hardiness zones: 3-10

Height: 6"

Location: Sun

Germination: Start these seeds indoors right away for best germination rates. Your planting container should have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a seed-start mix, and water in. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for 4 weeks. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-60 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
