YELLOW TREE PEONY
Paeonia lutea

Description

Absolutely stunning and massive flowers cover this 'tree' peony, which forms a large shrub that is quite hardy, even in cold climates! Flowers are absolutely HUGE, single, and a gold yellow color. Plants form woody stems, rather than growing from the ground like regular perennial garden peonies. These seeds are very large, almost like a little marble!

Type: Shrub/Tree

Height: 1.5 to 2 meters

Hardiness zones: 5-9

Location: Part or morning/evening sun.

Note: Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.

Seeds per pack: 5 Large seeds

Germination: Start these seeds right away to preserve viability, no matter the time of year. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 5-6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature for them to germinate. Germination is generally within 60 days after the warming period, though they could take a few months. If possible, the best location for sowing in March, April and May, is in cold frame or a cold greenhouse where they will receive the cold period and fluctuating temperatures naturally. Note, seeds may first form a root underground for a period of time before sprouting above ground, which may take some time. Patience is required for starting these seeds, but they are well worth the wait!
