Commonly known as Cobaea beardtongue, prairie penstemon or foxglove penstemon, it is native to the central United States. Of the penstemon species that grow in the United States, Cobaea penstemon has the largest flowers, arranged in groups on tall straight stems, making it a nice cutflower, and ideal for naturalizing. Lilac coloured flowers.

Cobaea naturally grows on hillsides, gravel, rocky outcrops, and gypsum soils, and eroded pastures. This plant is often visited by hummingbirds and other pollinators!
