This is an outstanding perennial geranium, and forms a small trunk! This geranium displays more blooms than we've ever seen on any geranium. The blooms are white, with a soft-pink center, or eye. Even the foliage is attractive, lush and fern-like.
Geranium maderense, known as giant herb-Robert or the Madeira cranesbill, is a species of flowering plant in the Geraniaceae family, native to the island of Madeira. Growing to 120-150 cm (47-59 in) tall and wide, it is a mound-forming evergreen perennial with deeply divided ferny leaves. Spectacular pink flowers on hairy red stems are produced in large panicles in summer. It is grown as an ornamental plant in temperate regions, and has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
Type: Perennial
Height: 120-150cm, 47-59"
Location: Sun or part sun
Hardiness zones: 8-10
Seeds per packet: 5
Surface sow as light aids germination. Water the seeds in. Temperature 20-22C (68-72F) for 4 weeks. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-60 days after the warming period, though some will take longer.
