Description

One of the most popular Native American sacred herbs used for ceremonial purposes. Smudging is done by drying, bundling and burning the herb to purify the surroundings of negative spirits.

The seeds are difficult to germinate, with rates as low as 20-30% and taking about 25 days to germinate. See growing info below.

Type: Herb. Perennial in zones 7-9, otherwise grow as an annual

Height: 3-5', 90-150cm

Seeds per pack: 10

Germination: Start these seeds indoors in winter, spring or early summer. A sterile seed-start mix is ideal for these small seeds. Sow the seeds on the surface of the soil, and water in. Do not bury the seeds as they require light to germinate. Keep lightly moist and do not let the soil dry out. A heat mat is beneficial until germination begins, and then they should be placed at 20-22 °C, 68-72 °F in an area with good air circulation (no cover). Seeds germinate within 15-30 days. If you receive these seeds in late summer or fall, they should be stored in a refrigerator and started as soon as possible for the next growing season.
