SWEET WOODRUFF Galium orodatum
Probably the most beautiful and easy to care for ground-cover available, Sweet Woodruff has dainty bright-green foliage, topped with lacy white flowers in spring and summer. Plants slowly creep to form a complete ground-cover, even in the driest and most poor soils, and even in acidic soils under evergreen trees. Plants never need watering, and will crown out weeds, yet easily allow taller plants and trees around them to continue to grow above them. We cannot say enough good things about this plant!
Very limited supply!
Type: Hardy perennial
Hardiness zones: 3-9
Location: or part
Seed description: The seeds are round and fuzzy!
Seeds per pack: 10
Germination: As with many perennial seeds, these seeds benefit from a period of moist cold to help them begin to grow. This is done by giving them a cold 'winter' period (artificial or natural), and then a warming to simulate 'spring', and time to grow! Here's how this can be done:
Obtain a planting container that has holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. Place the seeds just under the surface of your growing medium, and water. Place your container in a cold area (but not freezing, perhaps a refrigerator) for 4-5 weeks. Once the cold period is completed, place the container at room temperature for them to germinate. Be sure to keep the soil moist during this entire germination period. Seedlings will sprout about 50-70 days after being removed from the cold, though can occasionally take several months.
