Description

Perennial blue lobelia has absolutely-stunning blue blooms held on tall spikes! Blooms are true-blue, and not a of violet. Plants are very cold hardy, especially compared to red lobelia varieties, and will return year after year reliably. Tolerant of many soil types including poor dry soils. Blooms appear in late summer and into fall, when few other plants are in bloom. Hummingbirds love them! We have had a very large clump of these for many years and we consider them one of our most valuable perennials!

Type: Hardy perennial

Height: 36-48"

Location: Part sun or shade

Hardiness zones: 4-9

Note: Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.

Germination: Start these seeds right away to preserve viability, no matter the time of year. Surface sow the seeds, and do not bury them. These seeds can be started indoors, but actually do quite well being planted in the location that they are to grow! If you are receiving these seeds when the ground is thawed, simply lightly rake the ground, scatter the seeds on the surface (do not bury them) and water them in. They will germinate best during periods of wet weather, or can also easily be planted in summer also with frequent watering during germination. Or else start indoors in winter and plant outdoors in spring.
