Antennaria dioica is known by common names mountain everlasting, stoloniferous pussytoes, catsfoot and cudweed. It is a flowering perennial herb found in cool northern regions including North America, Europe and northern Asia. The flowers are a unique red-pink. The foliage is evergreen with a rosette of basal spoon-shaped leaves, and smaller leaves arranged spirally up the flowering stems. The plant's common name is derived from the flower clusters which are thought to resemble the pads or toes of a cat's paw. Ideal for rock gardens and sunny areas. Tolerant of dry and poor soils.
Type: Hardy perennial
Hardiness zones: 4-7
Height: 4", 10cm
Location: Sun to part shade
Seeds per packet: 50
Sow just under the surface of the soil and water in. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 12 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification they are then brought back to room temperature 20-22°C (68-72°F) for them to germinate. Germination is irregular over a long period of time, generally 60-90 days, but some can take longer. Do not discard the planting tray, as patience is needed, and they are well worth the wait.
