Very pretty lavender blossoms develop on fuzzy downy stems. Hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies are all attracted to the tubular flowers. 

The plant's unusual name comes from the fuzzy "tongue" in each bloom.

It is native to eastern Canada and United States, and in nature it grows in dry prairies, and fields, and can be grown in rocky areas.
