Salvia melissodora (Grape-scented sage) is a woody perennial shrub. The leaves and seeds are used medicinally by the Tarahumara of Mexico, and are thought to contain the same psychotropic compound found in diviners sage (S. divinorum). Foliage is pleasantly aromatic, and the large lavender flowers possess a remarkable grape scent (seemingly identical to the concord grapes we recently ravested!)! Blooms all season, from late spring until frost. The flowers are full of nectar, and are a perpetual magnet for bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
