Lupinus perennis (also wild perennial lupine, wild lupine, sundial lupine, blue lupine, Indian beet, or old maid's bonnets) is widespread in the eastern part of the USA (from Texas and Florida to Maine) and Minnesota, Canada (southern Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador), and on the coasts of the Arctic Ocean, where it grows in sandy areas such as dunes and savannas. The long flowers are most often blue or purple, though can also be white or pink.

Soak the seeds for 6-12 hours before planting. Place just under the surface of the soil and water in. Keep in a well-ventilated location for germination. Temperature 20-22C (68-72F). Seeds germinate in 14-60 days.
Sometimes lupin can be susceptible to "dampening off,? which is a term used for rotting of the young plants. There are extra measures that can be used to help prevent this. (1) Surface sow the seeds, and then covering them with a 1/4" thick layer of perlite. (2) Use a soluble fungicide.
Ornamental use only. These seeds and or plants are poisonous.
