Description

Jovellan Punctata, also known as a calceolaria is a perennial flower.  It can be kept as a perennial indoors in colder climates and moved outside after the last frost of the Winter and before the first frost in the Fall.  This flower has a pale violet colour with purple spots.  Naturally flowers between June and August.  It's a great addition to any garden, though they prefer bright but shaded areas.

Hardiness zones: 8-11

Location: Shade

Seeds per pack: 10 (these seeds are tiny)

Germination: Start these seeds indoors right away for best germination rates. Your planting container should have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a seed-start mix, and water in. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for 4 weeks. They may be growing at this point. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature. for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-60 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
