Known as the perennial cornflower, mountain cornflower, or bachelor's button, it is a species of flowering plant native to and widespread in Europe, and has become established in North America.

Centaurea montana grows in meadows and open woodland, and flowers mainly from May to August. It grows best in sunny locations though tolerates some shade. Suitable in various soils including sand and clay. It tolerates drought but cannot tolerate waterlogged conditions. The Royal Horticultural Society considers it a good plant to attract pollinators. Blooms May to July.

Due to the suitable British Columbia climate it is recognized as an invasive garden escapee that can rapidly overwhelm native species, and though not banned, we will not ship this species to BC.

Type: Hardy perennial

Hardiness zones: 3-9

Height: 20", 50cm

Location: Sun
